This is a scene I saw off Baddeck several years ago. I had tried to paint it a year ago and gave up. This year I realized that the hill with the white sail was the striking image. So I drastically reduced the size of the boat accordingly. It ceased to be "ship portrait." It worked! My challenge was painting a dull day. Usually I will change the light to sunshine. Sailing takes place in all weathers!
