CHANCEL BANNER DESIGN

"DRAW THE CIRCLE WIDE,"
FOR ST. ANDREW'S UNITED CHURCH, HALIFAX

Watercolour, Acrylic, and Papier Collé
16.5 x 16.5  cm      6.5 x 6.5 inches

This design is based on the Archimedean spiral, documented by Archimedes in the 3rd century BCE. It extends outward forever.
The background blue rays were painted with watercolour. White acrylic was then brushed over them to unify the colours. The spiral is gold acrylic.
The birds are cut paper collaged with acrylic medium.

The final banner is somewhat different. It was painted with the help of 12 volunteers from the congregation. The dark rays are more prominent, creating three dark rays and three light, which can be seen to symbolize the Trinity. To see an image of the banner hanging in the chancel, click here.
