THE LIGHTHOUSE ON HOBSONS ISLAND,
MAHONE BAY, c. 1930
Watercolour
25.5 x 50.5 cm      10 x 20 inches

This lighthouse is no more. The island is now a tiny shoal known as Hobsons Nose because of its shape. The source for this painting was a black and white photograph, courtesy of the Nova Scotia Archives and Records Management, and it is one of a series on historic lighthouses.

I enjoy the process of extrapolating visual material for sometimes fuzzy old photos and bring back to life a scene that can be seen no more.

Other paintings is this historic series are
Quaker Island Lighthouse, and Martello Tower Lighthouse
