EAST IRONBOUND LIGHTHOUSE
Watercolour
35 x 51 cm      13 3/4 x 20 inches

This lighthouse stands on an island at the entrance to Mahone Bay, one of the best cruising grounds in Nova Scotia. It is a unique example of a nineteenth century design that looks much like a church.

Here, I did a painted interpretation of a  Nautical Chart. East Ironbound Island, to the right of the tower, would have been minuscule had I used the actual chart. In painted charts, the land area comes forward to hang over the lighthouse, giving extra depth and interest to the painting.
